On the 13th of March the IB students have organised a winter activity day, which involved the entire school to take part in different indoor and outdoor winter sports or other activities. We were split into groups and each group was allocated a task or activity to be prepared. My group consisted of Stefan, Mark and Me.
We decided to build an obstacle course and build it entirely out of snow and some other obstacles like barriers to be taken from the school gym. We started the building proces a week before the activity day, to ensure that everything will be ready by then.
The obstacle cource started with deep holes in the snow which were to be jumped into by students. There were 5 of them. After that the students had to crawl under the net, run around a snow hill and go through a tunnel. After entering the tunnel they had to take a U-turn an accelerate in order to jump over the snow hill, after that again under the net and arount a high heap of snow. Here came the most interesting part where the participants had to crawl ot jump over barriers depending on the barrier height after that they ran straight and hat to finish on the top of the big heap of snow, which was about 2-2.5 metres high. We timed the students and for each mistake added 3 seconds to their time. The teachers also took part and also everyone was allowed to shoot snowballs at the person running through the obstacle course in order to slow him down.Strangely enough the best time was achived by Stefan and Me which was 31 seconds.
It was great fun and everyone enjoyed this activity alot, as it was perhaps the most challenging activity where you had to be flexible and creative in terms of strategic planning in order to acheive the quickest times.
We have met the following CAS objectives:
-Undertaken a new challenge(building an obstacle cource and organising the event)
-Planned and initiated activities(building in advance and maintaining it in good condition)
-Developed new skills(shovel skills and organising a grop of children exceeding 20)
-Worked collaboratively with each other( building the course was a great tem effort)
-Shown percievierence and commitment in my actions( worked 5 lunch times in a row)
